Welcome Back

We are super excited to have our students back with us for the 2025-26 school year. We are working to complete staff changes for our students. While those who have opted to move in other directions will be missed. We are excited about the additions to our Shive staff. I am sure you all will be just as excited once you have the chance to meet them.

We will have many opportunities for you to be involved this year. We hope you take advantage and help to make this the best year possible for your students.

I encourage all of our families to join our SWARM PTA as members. Shive would not be where it is without the long years of support from this group. Also, please engage in the fundraising activities as this will be a multi-year process to make needed improvements/additions to our playground areas.

Morning Car Rider Line

We appreciate everyone's patience as we get our AM arrival procedures down. We have fewer staff this year to help out. Beginning Monday, we will have some students assisting with getting our students out of their cars. A few things we ask of you.

  • If you have a smaller student who needs adult assistance, please come through the left lane. We will be shifting our adults to the front side and this will ensure you are in the sections with adults.
  • Please monitor traffic as you come through the line as this will ensure it will continue flowing.
  • We alternate lanes being moved to keep both lanes moving efficiently. The typical pattern is 5 from your left, 4 from your right, 4 from your left, 5 from your right.
  • Please have students ready to get out when pulling up to the awning to help keep our line flowing.
  • The right entry lane is for our special needs students and any Pre-K that wish to walk students to class.
  • Pre-K families, you can turn into gravel drive and move to area at fenced playground. The Pre-K class back door is just down that sidewalk.

First Week and Walking Students In

We allow families to walk students in during the first full week. After Friday, August 15, we ask that you drop students off.

If you are going to walk students in, please park in the lower lot. Please walk and cross over at the location of our chain and travel up from there. This will allow the car rider line to flow without issue.

School Lunch Signups

Use the button below to access the sign up to come have lunch with your student. Spacing is limited, so there are caps on the number of slots for each lunch period. You only need to sign up for one slot and can bring up to 3 guests (tables seat 4 and the student would be one of these). Please remember you can only sign up to have lunch with your student.

Parent Request for Educational Absence

If you know your student will be out for a learning experience, you can request to have the days excused as an educational absence. The days do still count as absences as the student is not in the building. This is a process that should be completed at least 10 days before the absence, so please plan accordingly. Use the button below to get to the form, schedule conference with teachers during the planning process, and submit form to Dr. Dunlap.

Attendance Matters

As we embark on the new school year, we hope to have our students present as much as possible. Our goal will remain 95% attendance rate for the year. Please remember that if you student is absent, send a note to the office so that it can be coded excused. State law requires us to notify parents when students reach 3, 6, and then 10 unexcused absences. We will begin sending these home the last week of August. I encourage families to look into the legislation regarding attendance and truancy (NCGS 115C-378).

ParentSquare

ParentSquare is the new communication tool for all of RSS. Eventually all other tools (Dojo, Remind, etc) are being blocked. If you have not connected to ParentSquare, we ask that you please do so. It will allow you to keep up with what goes on at school and to communicate with teachers and other staff. There are apps for Apple and Google devices and you can access online (link below). To register, you will need either the phone number linked to your student(s) or your email that is in Infinite Campus. You will type on the "Register" box and set up your account. You will get access immediately.
